The future of Indian Democracy will depend on how they are involved with it. Young people have much to offer societies – from innovation to creativity to new thinking. Their participation in democracy promotes active citizenship, strengthens social responsibility and can enhance democratic processes and institutions. Today’s young citizens are tomorrow’s leaders and decision-makers. Yet young people’s engagement with democracy has been facing significant challenges, which is a threatening alarm for the future of healthy democracies.
Against this backdrop, Grassroot Empowerment and Development by Youth started a series of “One Day Workshop on Youth and Democracy” to engage with and enable youth to be active and informed participants of Indian Democracy. The first such workshop has been conducted at Khariar Autonomous College, Nuapada, Odisha. The workshop saw participation of 70 youths.
